I would say she is my cat, but I don't think she is anyone's cat. We adopted her from a shelter in a nearby city around 2 years ago on my birthday. I have a huge heart for animals.  We brought her home from the shelter and within an hour she already ran the place, and over the next several weeks, murdered all of my houseplants by biting them to death.  \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHer other hobbies, besides plant murder, include: \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStealing whatever she can carry\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eHoarding her ill-gotten treasures under the bed and behind the washing machine\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eBiting my elbow (weird way to show love) \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSleeping in the clean laundry. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt is no surprise that I eventually found her taking cat-size bites out of my fake plants in my art studio and that's how this painting came to life.  I caught her in the act and snapped a photo for reference so I could paint her crimes.  \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMy painting process always starts with a sketch, then I follow it up with a detailed value study using markers. I like to preserve the sketchy style in my underpaintings.  Next, I wash a layer of color over the entire sketch to create my underpainting. They've sparked many conspiracy theories related to UFOs, secret government projects, and pranksters. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn 2022, another one popped up in Arizona, and it made me giggle, knowing that this was likely the work of the artists and tinkerers that were behind the first ones to pop up a couple of years ago. So I decided to let the humor of these strange and shiny objects ride out through my own art. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis one is a departure from my favorite medium, acrylic paint. I chose to embrace technology and create this painting digitally. I hadn't used digital painting tools since the early 2010s with a very clunky and old Wacom Tablet attached to my PC.  Now I have an iPad and a new world of creative tools to explore. The results were very fun! Crows are beautiful and intelligent birds. I am fascinated by their problem solving skills and their strong memories. They remember people and even hold grudges! I always hope to stay on their good side.  They are often associated with darkenss, sadness, and bad times, but I don't feel that way about them. With this painting, I attempted to bring out the hidden color found in their feathers. It's a way to show that even darkness has it's beauty. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a very interpretive painting style that is somewhat unfamiliar to me and quite the challenge. I went for bold, painterly brushstrokes, with an effort to resist blending too much. There is a great local trail that I frequent with my dog. Though it doesn't have mountains, it was a great inspiration for this painting.  I often wonder who has walked the trail before me, and this particular walk I was thinking about Halloween and ghosts. I was watching the trees start to change color and could feel a chill in the air.  \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs usual, I started with a pencil sketch and built it up with markers before applying my underpainting wash. I wanted to be loose with this painting especially with the grass along the dirt trail. I appreciate his willingness to share techniques and exploring art with others. I wanted to capture a wild fox being silly. If you have a love of animals you'll find a lot of joy in this painting. I chose to keep the background plain to keep the fox sticking his tongue out and his crossed eyes the focal point. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMy process for this included studying a lot of foxes and various reference photos to create the sketch for this painting. After I sketched it out, I did a value study in Copic markers before applying my underpainting wash.  I decided to keep some of the sketch lines visible as I painted this time. I liked how it added an illustrative look to the fox.
