What Really Happened in Arizona 30x30 cm / 12x12″

Beginning sometime during the pandemic days of 2020, mysterious shiny monoliths have been popping up around the US. They've sparked many conspiracy theories related to UFOs, secret government projects, and pranksters. 

In 2022, another one popped up in Arizona, and it made me giggle, knowing that this was likely the work of the artists and tinkerers that were behind the first ones to pop up a couple of years ago. So I decided to let the humor of these strange and shiny objects ride out through my own art. 

This one is a departure from my favorite medium, acrylic paint. I chose to embrace technology and create this painting digitally. I hadn't used digital painting tools since the early 2010s with a very clunky and old Wacom Tablet attached to my PC.  Now I have an iPad and a new world of creative tools to explore. It was overwhelming and fun!  

I started with a hand-drawn traditional sketch on paper and continued building on it with digital painting tools in Procreate. The results were very fun! I'm sure I will create more digital work in the future, it seemed really fitting for an alien related sc-fi piece.
